In the 5th match minute, São Paulo Leste F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by David Coutinho to maneuver through the defense. When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 8th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. Agustín Saelices scored 0-1 in the 10th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Emerson Leão, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 13th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Emerson Leão saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 14th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. São Paulo Leste F.C.'s goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. The wind increased when Edvard Gråberg made the kick off in the second half. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Gao Kun Mo in the 51st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. Cristian Sancho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 63rd minute of the match, but Emerson Leão made a huge save. If Leendert Looze had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Ecuador's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Edvard Gråberg sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
