The audience was convinced that Daniel Zorita's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Sandro Tepedino was relentless in the 8th minute of the game. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 9th minute after Que se abra o mar's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Felix Montes got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Sandro Tepedino quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Daniel Zorita struck a weak shot in the 19th minute. Sandro Tepedino didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Sandro Tepedino showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 21st minute of the match. In the 29th minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. A well-hit corner resulted in Luis Andino heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Sandro Tepedino showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Agustín Saelices, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. Daniel Zorita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 39th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience was convinced that Loco Orange's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 42nd minute of the game. In the 43rd minute, Daniel Zorita got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Que se abra o mar's Tommy Van Elsen got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Loco Orange tried to sneak it across the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Daniel Zorita made the kick off in the second half. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tommy Van Elsen in the 51st minute of the match. In the 53rd minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Que se abra o mar's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick.
