Håkan Söderberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bart Vetter, who was totally free with the ball in the 10th minute. 11 minutes had been played when some careless play by Degerfors IF's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Florent Travers was slow to take the kick. During this time R.C. Marseille's players had a chance to rest. In the 15th minute of the game Pierre-Emmanuel Teboul made a throw-in which William Lepreux played forward. Pierre-Emmanuel Teboul hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Degerfors IF's Tomas Kråk got a free kick in the 21st minute. Everyone was convinced a goal was close when Degerfors IF's Åke Fors in the 32nd minute lifted the ball towards the upper right corner, but Gustave Lechat was perfectly placed and prevented a goal for R.C. Marseille through an amazing save. After some fancy dribbling in the 34th minute, Bart Vetter managed to get in a good position for a shot. R.C. Marseille's supporters rose to their feet, but Bart Vetter was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Håkan Söderberg breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. R.C. Marseille's Gustave Lechat proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 37th minute of the match, managed to save R.C. Marseille from getting a goal against them. Åke Fors blasted a shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Gustave Lechat having to make a save. Gustave Lechat showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Åke Fors in the 44th minute of the match.

After 58 minutes of play, Degerfors IF's Åke Fors made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gustave Lechat was left in no man's land by his defense there! A collision led to Degerfors IF getting a freekick after 60 minutes play. Fredrik Isak hit a great ball. Åke Fors took the ball and in the 62 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Gustave Lechat. Gustave Lechat dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. In the 67th minute of the game Émile Levert made a throw-in which Luka Le Tiec played forward. Gustave Lechat made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Åke Fors in the 71st minute of play. If Åke Fors had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Åke Fors struck a weak shot in the 81st minute. Gustave Lechat didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Degerfors IF. An unexpectedly hard shot by Åke Fors in the 85th minute of play forced R.C. Marseille's goalkeeper Gustave Lechat to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Degerfors IF's Zé Simões managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Émile Levert in the 89 minute of the game. After having played for 90 minutes, Åke Fors managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Degerfors IF's supporters crossed their fingers, but Åke Fors was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Håkan Söderberg took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulo Teinturier, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Håkan Söderberg made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paulo Teinturier in the 95th minute of play. When the referee blew the final whistle, Degerfors IF could leave the field as winners, despite R.C. Marseille having more of the ball for most of the match.
