José Carlos Simões received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Gustave Lechat tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Paulo Teinturier received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Jacinto Chaves tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bernt Jønsson in the 9th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gustave Lechat prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 14th minute, Fábio de Souza hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 17thth minute of the game José Carlos Simões who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but R.C. Marseille's Gustave Lechat was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Jacinto Chaves showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bart Vetter in the 21st minute of the match. After 22 minutes, Perivaldo Furlan mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Palmeiras and the R.C. Marseille players grew even worse after the yellow card. Perivaldo Furlan hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. Jacinto Chaves made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paulo Teinturier in the 29th minute of play. José Carlos Simões fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gustave Lechat having to interfere. Bernt Jønsson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Bernt Jønsson in the 40th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gustave Lechat saved R.C. Marseille from getting behind. If José Carlos Simões had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 43 minutes into the match, Palmeiras's goalkeeper Jacinto Chaves had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Bart Vetter. Gustave Lechat came out of the goal in the 47th minute to try and stop a shot by Palmeiras's Bernt Jønsson. But to his dismay, Bernt Jønsson quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. The R.C. Marseille players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Palmeiras were winning 0-1.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Paulo Teinturier to strike the kick off in the second half. Bernt Jønsson's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Gustave Lechat firmly grabbed it by the left post. After some careless play in the Palmeiras defense, Paulo Teinturier kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jacinto Chaves. The Palmeiras fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jacinto Chaves should have stopped the shot. 58 minutes into the match, R.C. Marseille's goal looked a bit too open when Elano Soares came free, but Gustave Lechat reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 61 minutes into the match, Bernt Jønsson notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of R.C. Marseille's Gustave Lechat. Gustave Lechat was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The supporters of Palmeiras booed when R.C. Marseille was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Florent Travers didn't get a good kick on the ball. José Carlos Simões sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 75 minutes, Bernt Jønsson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Palmeiras's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bernt Jønsson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of R.C. Marseille booed when Palmeiras was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. José Carlos Simões didn't get a good kick on the ball. José Carlos Simões sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gustave Lechat made a fantastic save in the 84th minute, when Bernt Jønsson sent off a good shot on target. In the 86th match minute, Palmeiras was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Waldemar Jacinto to maneuver through the defense. Florent Travers's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jacinto Chaves read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 87th minute of play. Gustave Lechat had great luck who in the 90thth minute grab hold of the ball when José Carlos Simões from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. After 95 played minutes R.C. Marseille got a freekick which was hit by William Chausson. The Palmeiras players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented R.C. Marseille from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
