Tim Wiese was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Paulo Teinturier showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-0 in the 8 minute of play. In the 16th match minute, R.C. Marseille was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Florent Travers to maneuver through the defense. Gustave Lechat showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Halldor Sönksen, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. Émile Levert's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Tim Wiese read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 24th minute of play. 25 minutes had been played when some careless play by SV Bad Harzburg's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Florent Travers was slow to take the kick. During this time R.C. Marseille's players had a chance to rest. The corner led to R.C. Marseille's Luka Le Tiec getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. If Florent Travers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. R.C. Marseille's Florent Travers got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 35 played minutes R.C. Marseille got a freekick which was hit by Florent Travers. The audience was convinced that Halldor Sönksen's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gustave Lechat was relentless in the 42nd minute of the game. In the 46th match minute, R.C. Marseille was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Paulo Teinturier to maneuver through the defense.

After 55 played minutes SV Bad Harzburg got a freekick which was hit by Willi Rau. The audience thought a goal was coming when Eckard Döngelli got free with Gustave Lechat in the 64th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. R.C. Marseille's Gustave Lechat played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Halldor Sönksen in the 70th minute of play. A collision led to SV Bad Harzburg getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. Willi Rau hit a great ball. In the 78th minute of the match, Eckard Döngelli got a very nice opportunity to score, but Gustave Lechat was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. After a rather tough play, R.C. Marseille's William Chausson got a free kick in the 80th minute. SV Bad Harzburg's Tim Wiese played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulo Teinturier in the 85th minute of play. The SV Bad Harzburg players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
