Luz Tejedor ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led Peru's Joaquin Prats to fire away a dangerous shot which Sebastian Titz despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Julian Murillo in the 22nd minute of play forced Sydney FC's goalkeeper Sebastian Titz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Peru were awarded a corner in the 23th minute after Sydney FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Luz Tejedor took the corner. It was a well-played corner which Julian Murillo managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. A hard shot by Ferdinand Mendy from long distance, 26 minutes into the match, got Rolando Noboa's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Angelo Milanese got free with Rolando Noboa in the 27th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 32nd match minute, Sydney FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ludwig Hanstein to maneuver through the defense. 33 minutes into the game, Peru's Eliseo Mina nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Sebastian Titz made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. Sydney FC made a substitution. Günter Vogelweide replaced Önder Cebi. Sebastian Titz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Julian Murillo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sydney FC's Sebastian Titz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eliseo Mina in the 40th minute of play. After having played for 43 minutes, Günter Vogelweide managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sydney FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Günter Vogelweide was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Günter Vogelweide received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Rolando Noboa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Julian Murillo in the 58thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal.
