Ecuador's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
Adriano Pappalardo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Agustín Saelices, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. Adriano Pappalardo made a fantastic save in the 53rd minute, when Cristian Sancho sent off a good shot on target. The supporters of chacarita juniors booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Primitivo Andino didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Luis Andino was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Adriano Pappalardo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
