In the 11th minute Joel Gaona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but András Horváth saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 13 minutes into the match, Mexico's goalkeeper Dante Lacasa had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Csongor Csorba. Szajk LC's András Horváth played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 15th minute of play. In the 16th match minute, Szajk LC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Zénó Polgár to maneuver through the defense. Joel Gaona sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some careless play in the Szajk LC defense, Lautaro Mancebo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of András Horváth. The Szajk LC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that András Horváth should have stopped the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joel Gaona in the 32nd minute of play forced Szajk LC's goalkeeper András Horváth to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Szajk LC booed when Mexico was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lautaro Mancebo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Csongor Csorba could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but Dante Lacasa made a huge save. Lajos Józsa hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. Joel Gaona fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without András Horváth having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.
