Venezuela's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave GD Almargense the free kick. In the 20th match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alex Chicote to maneuver through the defense. 21 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Adérito Pinheiro. Claudemiro Tristão made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Illescas in the 26th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Adérito Pinheiro got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Alexandre Eanes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 40th minute of the match, managed to save Venezuela from getting a goal against them. Jonathan Ferrant didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Adérito Pinheiro went, in the 43rd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. António Sousa kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tomas Illescas to make the kick off. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Celso Eiró in the 54th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jonathan Ferrant saved Venezuela from getting behind. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. GD Almargense made a substitution. A nice corner shot did that Alexandre Valadares got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Jonathan Ferrant quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save.
