The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Rigoberto Mina hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. Jonathan Ferrant came out of the goal and Valdo Toscano tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Lucas Arboleda made in the 23rd minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Guilherme Corrêa however managed to control. Valdo Toscano could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 25th minute of the match, but Jonathan Ferrant made a huge save. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Valdo Toscano in the 29th minute of the match. Tomas Illescas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mané Netto having to interfere. In the 31st minute, Tomas Illescas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 42 minutes, Jose Correa mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Venezuela and the 20 de Abril players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 42 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Jose Correa.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Valdo Toscano made a kick off. 20 de Abril's Sílvio Luís da Mata got a good chance for a goal in the 51st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Venezuela booed when 20 de Abril was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lucas Arboleda didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Venezuela defense, Valdo Toscano kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. The Venezuela fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jonathan Ferrant should have stopped the shot. 20 de Abril's Robinho Freire was substituted for Valdo Toscano. 20 de Abril made a substitution. The corner was taken by Álvaro de Mendonça in the 69th minute. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Venezuela's goalie and right to Eduardo Maranhense. Venezuela's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. After 71 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Guillermo Mariano. After some fancy dribbling in the 75th minute, Váldson Barral managed to get in a good position for a shot. 20 de Abril's supporters rose to their feet, but Váldson Barral was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jonathan Ferrant breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Álvaro de Mendonça fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. In the 83rd match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Patricio Costa to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to 20 de Abril getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Váldson Barral hit a great ball. Patricio Costa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mané Netto having to interfere.
