In the 5th minute, Falcão Duarte got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Nando Sena made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joel Catarinense in the 8th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Raí Prestes in the 13th minute of play forced Galo do Japi's goalkeeper Delfim Chaves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 27th minute Joel Catarinense shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nando Sena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 33 minutes had been played when some careless play by Independente FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Falcão Duarte was slow to take the kick. During this time Galo do Japi's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on Galo do Japi's corner Nilmar Mota fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Nando Sena quite easily take care of the ball. Delfim Chaves made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luiz Marquez in the 35th minute of play. Independente FC's Nilson Duarte was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Delfim Chaves in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Raí Prestes's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Delfim Chaves firmly grabbed it by the left post. 41 minutes into the match, Galo do Japi's Joel Catarinense sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nando Sena narrowly saved just below the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luiz Marquez in the 45th minute of play forced Galo do Japi's goalkeeper Delfim Chaves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Raí Prestes came free with the goalkeeper in the 48th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Delfim Chaves could save by the left post. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Luiz Marquez was the one to do the kick off. Nando Sena showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Falcão Duarte, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Álvaro Matos during the 64th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Independente FC's Álvaro Matos got a free kick in the 65th minute. Carlos Fernando de Toledo's late challenge caught a Galo do Japi's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. After 71 minutes of play, Galo do Japi's Joel Catarinense made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Nando Sena was left in no man's land by his defense there! 74 minutes into the match, Galo do Japi's goal looked a bit too open when Raí Prestes came free, but Delfim Chaves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 81st minute, Galo do Japi's Joel Catarinense dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-2. With a little luck, Independente FC's Nando Sena got control of the ball when Chucky Norris tried to sneak it across the goal line. Joel Catarinense struck a weak shot in the 88th minute. Nando Sena didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Galo do Japi. The throw-in from Carlos Fernando de Toledo in the 90th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Galo do Japi's Gernando Gomes. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Chucky Norris managed to get in a good position for a shot. Galo do Japi's supporters rose to their feet, but Chucky Norris was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nando Sena breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Raí Prestes struck a weak shot in the 94th minute. Delfim Chaves didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Independente FC. The Galo do Japi supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Galo do Japi would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
