Naldo Fonseca took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 38th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Lev Yashin. Conjunto Paisa's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 44th match minute, Vanderslaike FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bengt-Arne Stor to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by José Lopes in the 47th minute of play forced Conjunto Paisa's goalkeeper Lev Yashin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tomás Angel was the one to do the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Naldo Fonseca got free with Lev Yashin in the 84th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 85 minutes, Naldo Fonseca managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vanderslaike FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Naldo Fonseca was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Conjunto Paisa's Lev Yashin proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 90th minute of the match, managed to save Conjunto Paisa from getting a goal against them. Conjunto Paisa's Tomás Angel got a good chance for a goal in the 96th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
