After having played for 4 minutes, Ted Almstedt managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Runa United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ted Almstedt was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 9th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nils-Erik Åhlberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 12 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Harry Boumans came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 19 minutes Runa United's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. In the 22nd minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nils-Erik Åhlberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 25th minute Runa United were awarded a corner. Matthias Lundin went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Runa United's corner Matthias Lundin fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Julio Vera quite easily take care of the ball. Runa United's Nils-Erik Åhlberg played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 29th minute of play. After 31 minutes of play, Runa United's Harry Boumans made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Julio Vera was left in no man's land by his defense there! Daniel Zorita struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Nils-Erik Åhlberg didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ted Almstedt in the 37th minute of the match. 38 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nils-Erik Åhlberg narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 41st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Bo Eriksson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.
The wind increased when Daniel Zorita made the kick off in the second half. Runa United's Nils-Erik Åhlberg proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save Runa United from getting a goal against them. Nils-Erik Åhlberg made a fantastic save in the 53rd minute, when Cristian Sancho sent off a good shot on target. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Nils-Erik Åhlberg in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 59 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Bo Eriksson came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bo Eriksson in the 60th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Nils-Erik Åhlberg tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 62 minutes into the match, Runa United's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Nils-Erik Åhlberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ted Almstedt in the 65th minute of play. With a little luck, Runa United's Nils-Erik Åhlberg got control of the ball when Cristian Sancho tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ted Almstedt kicked well hit freekick during the 68th minute of the match. Daniel Zorita's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Nils-Erik Åhlberg firmly grabbed it by the left post. Nils-Erik Åhlberg stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Agustín Saelices's shot from short distance in the 74th minute. In the 75th minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. A well-hit corner resulted in Felix Montenegro heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bo Eriksson in the 79th minute of play. In the 86th minute of the game, Agustín Saelices landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. Florian Fittipaldi's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Florian Fittipaldi helped the player get up and apologised. Ecuador made a substitution. Diego Mancebo replaced Agustín Saelices. Florian Fittipaldi hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. Nils-Erik Åhlberg didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Cristian Sancho went, in the 89th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. The audience was convinced that Harry Boumans's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 92nd minute of the game.
