The audience thought a goal was coming when Saverio Matthew got free with Julio Vera in the 25th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Daniel Zorita made a kick off. Vilgot Palmquist made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 62nd minute. Ulf Zachrisson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 63rd minute of play. Vilgot Palmquist was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Övertorneå RK was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pedro Mech didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 86 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Vilgot Palmquist showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 88th minute of the match. Vilgot Palmquist showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. The audience was convinced that Saverio Matthew's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 94th minute of the game. When the match was over Ecuador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Övertorneå RK throughout the match.
