Rıdvan İbrahimoğlu came out of the goal and Guy Rothe tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 16th match minute, FFC Merainies 03 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Andre Genkenaar to maneuver through the defense. Rıdvan İbrahimoğlu acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 17th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Ferdinand Mendy. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pepijn Hummel in the 20th minute of play forced Sydney FC's goalkeeper Sebastian Titz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 21st minute of the match FFC Merainies 03 got a corner. Sydney FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Fabio Botello ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Fabio Botello almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Sydney FC's Sebastian Titz did a great save. In the 23rd minute Fabio Botello shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sebastian Titz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rıdvan İbrahimoğlu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Emanuel Ogășanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Angelo Milanese got free with Rıdvan İbrahimoğlu in the 44th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Önder Cebi to strike the kick off in the second half. Sydney FC's Sebastian Titz proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save Sydney FC from getting a goal against them. After 53 played minutes FFC Merainies 03 got a freekick which was hit by Bruno Marceau. An unexpectedly hard shot by Angelo Milanese in the 54th minute of play forced FFC Merainies 03's goalkeeper Rıdvan İbrahimoğlu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of FFC Merainies 03 booed when Sydney FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kai Petermann didn't get a good kick on the ball. With an all-out effort, FFC Merainies 03's Sebastian Titz threw himself towards the right post 59 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Ksawery Gongola, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The audience thought a goal was coming when Pepijn Hummel got free with Sebastian Titz in the 60th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When the match had gone on for 60 minutes, Pepijn Hummel took a quick shot and it went in 1-1 without a chance for Sebastian Titz to make any attempt to save it. Önder Cebi blasted a shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rıdvan İbrahimoğlu having to make a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Emanuel Ogășanu in the 65th minute of play forced FFC Merainies 03's goalkeeper Rıdvan İbrahimoğlu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 67th minute of the match, Leon Craandijk got a very nice opportunity to score, but Sebastian Titz was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Rıdvan İbrahimoğlu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Emanuel Ogășanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. Thanks to some nice moves Pepijn Hummel could shoot a difficult shot in the 78th minute, which Sebastian Titz however easily saved by the left post. Rıdvan İbrahimoğlu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Angelo Milanese in the 79th minute of play. With a little luck, Sydney FC's Sebastian Titz got control of the ball when Pepijn Hummel tried to sneak it across the goal line. Rıdvan İbrahimoğlu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Önder Cebi in the 86th minute of the match. FFC Merainies 03 were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Sydney FC to leave the ground with a draw.
