Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carmelo Osoitz in the 8th minute of the match. 11 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Luciano Selmo. Cecilio Jax made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 13th minute of play. The supporters of San Martin de Tucuman booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Daniel Zorita didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Carmelo Osoitz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Carmelo Osoitz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cecilio Jax showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. Cecilio Jax came out of the goal in the 25th minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Daniel Zorita. But to his dismay, Daniel Zorita quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. If Luciano Selmo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Luciano Selmo tried to sneak it across the goal line. 32 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Paulino Lamberto. San Martin de Tucuman were awarded a corner in the 33th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Paulino Lamberto took the corner. After taking down the ball on San Martin de Tucuman's corner Paulino Lamberto fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Julio Vera quite easily take care of the ball. Cecilio Jax took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Felix Montenegro's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cecilio Jax was relentless in the 41st minute of the game. Luciano Selmo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 42nd minute of play.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. Paulino Lamberto took the ball and in the 50 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Julio Vera. Julio Vera dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luciano Selmo in the 56th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luis Andino in the 60th minute of play forced San Martin de Tucuman's goalkeeper Cecilio Jax to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulino Lamberto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 65 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Paulino Lamberto came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Primitivo Andino hit a great ball. Julio Vera didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Marcial Munio went, in the 76th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-2 was the resulting score. 83 minutes into the match, San Martin de Tucuman's Marcial Munio sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. San Martin de Tucuman were awarded a corner in the 84th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Paulino Lamberto took the corner. The corner ended in Paulino Lamberto almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. In the 85th minute Carmelo Osoitz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Agustín Saelices could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 87th minute of the match, but Cecilio Jax made a huge save. In the 93rd minute San Martin de Tucuman were awarded a corner. Paulino Lamberto went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on San Martin de Tucuman's corner Paulino Lamberto fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Julio Vera quite easily take care of the ball. Ecuador were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
