In the 10th minute, Florentin Gougeon got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Baudelio Santa Ana showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jonny Logan in the 13th minute of the match. 16 minutes into the match, Florentin Gougeon notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Capo de Provincia's Baudelio Santa Ana. Baudelio Santa Ana was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 19 played minutes Valencia C.F. got a freekick which was hit by Jonny Logan. Santiago Cañizares showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jeronimo Avaria, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. After some careless play in the Capo de Provincia defense, Florentin Gougeon kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Baudelio Santa Ana. The Capo de Provincia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Baudelio Santa Ana should have stopped the shot. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Florentin Gougeon in the 29th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Baudelio Santa Ana saved Capo de Provincia from getting behind. Valencia C.F.'s Tuncay Candeğer quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Epifanío Mejia, made in the 30th minute of the game. Ricardo Arias was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 31 minutes into the match. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Osvaldo Sánchez to make the kick off. In the 53rd minute of the match, Jonny Logan got a very nice opportunity to score, but Baudelio Santa Ana was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. 55 minutes into the match, Capo de Provincia's goalkeeper Baudelio Santa Ana had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Florentin Gougeon. Baudelio Santa Ana didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Florentin Gougeon went, in the 59th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-3 was the resulting score. In the 62nd minute, Osvaldo Sánchez hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 80 minutes, Saúl Tindall mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Capo de Provincia and the Valencia C.F. players grew even worse after the yellow card. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jonny Logan got free with Baudelio Santa Ana in the 95th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
