With a left leg Váldson de Queirós saved Palmeiras from getting behind. A collision led to Palmeiras getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Perivaldo Bittencourt hit a great ball. The audience was convinced that Hernan Giraldo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Váldson de Queirós was relentless in the 39th minute of the game. Váldson de Queirós stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Franco Milazzo's shot from short distance in the 65th minute.
