The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. 23 minutes into the match, Bajen's Bernardo Caballero sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Bajen's Nick Pope played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 24th minute of play. Johan Johansson's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Julio Vera firmly grabbed it by the left post. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After the first half Ecuador were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Agustín Saelicess short, quick shot in the 55thth minute got Nick Pope to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 56th match minute, Bajen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nicklas Trøjgaard to maneuver through the defense. Fazıl Hüsnü Toygun's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bernardo Caballero in the 91st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 94th minute, Bernardo Caballero ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Julio Vera was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-4.
