Azerbaijan's Nuşirävan Cäbrayilov played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edgar Miodek in the 20th minute of play. Nuşirävan Cäbrayilov made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Guga Simão in the 20th minute of play. When Azerbaijan's Äliqulu Vermäliyev in the 22nd minute got a chance for a shot 22nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Äliqulu Vermäliyev in the 35thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Ke Kun, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Äliqulu Vermäliyev's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ke Kun read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 36th minute of play. If Abülfäz Eminov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ke Kun made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Äliqulu Vermäliyev in the 40th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 42nd minute, Edgar Miodek managed to get in a good position for a shot. The Punisher's supporters rose to their feet, but Edgar Miodek was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nuşirävan Cäbrayilov breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, Azerbaijan's Qaryağdı Isayev got a free kick in the 44th minute. In the 45th minute Edgar Miodek shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nuşirävan Cäbrayilov saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 46 played minutes Azerbaijan got a freekick which was hit by Säftär Güläliyev. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Äliqulu Vermäliyev stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The Punisher's Edgar Miodek got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Äliqulu Vermäliyev sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Azerbaijan booed when The Punisher was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edmundo Quadros didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Qaryağdı Isayev came up free with the goalie in the 63rd minute, the Azerbaijan fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Qaryağdı Isayev couldn't finish the play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Edgar Miodek in the 65th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nuşirävan Cäbrayilov prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience was convinced that Äliqulu Vermäliyev's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ke Kun was relentless in the 72nd minute of the game.
