Olof Rijaard started the match with the kick off. After 5 minutes De Kasteelheren's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Luka Roth who took care of the corner kick. Werner Weken thought of kicking away a contribution in front of goal but messed it up so badly that the ball went to the right of an astonished Bernard Mülder, a very annoying self made goal in the 5th minute which led to 0-1. Erich Pitten showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlo Bosstraeten in the 8th minute of the match. 9 minutes into the match, SSV Ulm 1846's goalkeeper Erich Pitten had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Olof Rijaard. In the 10th minute of the match, Erwin Lanting tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Erich Pitten saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 15th minute, Miro Klose ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Bernard Mülder was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. The corner went over the outstretched arms of De Kasteelheren's goalie and right to Constantin Brenner. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. De Kasteelheren's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Olof Rijaard during the 27th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of SSV Ulm 1846 booed when De Kasteelheren was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Olof Rijaard didn't get a good kick on the ball. 32 minutes into the game, SSV Ulm 1846's Miro Klose nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Bernard Mülder made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. Olof Rijaard might have been able to make a better finish in the 40th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Erich Pitten. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Olof Rijaard ran back to his position shaking his head. After a rather tough play, De Kasteelheren's Sjef Klein got a free kick in the 46th minute. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Miro Klose to make the kick off. 54 minutes into the match, SSV Ulm 1846's goal looked a bit too open when Olof Rijaard came free, but Erich Pitten reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to SSV Ulm 1846 getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Amadeo Brase hit a great ball. Erich Pitten made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carlo Bosstraeten in the 58th minute of play. Erich Pitten showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlo Bosstraeten in the 61st minute of the match. After 62 played minutes De Kasteelheren got a freekick which was hit by Stefano Zijden. During the 66th minute of the match Olof Rijaard completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Olof Rijaard a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. In the 66th minute, Olof Rijaard hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Erwin Lanting fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Erich Pitten having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Miro Klose in the 74th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Bernard Mülder saved De Kasteelheren from getting behind. Erich Pitten had in the 77thth minute some difficulties stopping Erwin Lanting's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. De Kasteelheren's Bernard Mülder proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 79th minute of the match, managed to save De Kasteelheren from getting a goal against them. In the 80thth minute of the game Erwin Lanting who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but SSV Ulm 1846's Erich Pitten was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 81 minutes into the match, SSV Ulm 1846's goal looked a bit too open when Erwin Lanting came free, but Erich Pitten reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 82 played minutes SSV Ulm 1846 got a freekick which was hit by Adam Dieler. Erich Pitten showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Erwin Lanting in the 88th minute of the match. After 89 played minutes De Kasteelheren got a freekick which was hit by Hans-Cees Mol. An unexpectedly hard shot by Erwin Lanting in the 92nd minute of play forced SSV Ulm 1846's goalkeeper Erich Pitten to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Erwin Lanting's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Erich Pitten read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 94th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 97th minute, Hans-Cees Mol managed to get in a good position for a shot. De Kasteelheren's supporters rose to their feet, but Hans-Cees Mol was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Erich Pitten breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. SSV Ulm 1846's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
