Aristide Deleanu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tomas Berganza, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. Marcos Cotilla made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from William Bergström in the 35th minute of play. In the 35th match minute, Panama was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alex Cambeiro to maneuver through the defense. The audience was convinced that Tomas Berganza's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Aristide Deleanu was relentless in the 43rd minute of the game.
