The ball went over the crossbar instead. 11 minutes into the match, Джуджан's Shen Yin Le sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The audience cheered loudly when Ventzislav Mutafchiyski's long shot in the 19th minute became 1-1 when the ball went to the left of and passed Julio Vera. In the 22nd minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Niki Kalkandzhiev saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Niki Kalkandzhiev didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Daniel Zorita went, in the 24th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. After some careless play in the Джуджан defense, Daniel Zorita kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Niki Kalkandzhiev. The Джуджан fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Niki Kalkandzhiev should have stopped the shot. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 2-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The corner led to Ecuador's Luis Andino getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Ecuador's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. 69 minutes into the match, Джуджан's goalkeeper Niki Kalkandzhiev had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. Anatoly Karpov scored 4-3 in the 79th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Anatoly Karpov in the 83rd minute of the match. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Niki Kalkandzhiev was out of position in the 93 minute of play, and Daniel Zorita capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Daniel Zorita really showed his touch with that goal: 4-5. When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 97th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. When the final whistle sounded Ecuador left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Джуджан.
