Jailson Berger recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 46 minutes, Luisão Mesquita mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Altonia and the Desportivo Coimbra players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Desportivo Coimbra booed when Altonia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luisão Mesquita didn't get a good kick on the ball.
The referee felt a red card was in order, 51 minutes into the game, when Silas Matos put in a rough tackle. In the 51st minute, one of Altonia:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Altonia. When the match had been going on for 53 minutes, Desportivo Coimbra's Vladimir Gaúcho got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Elias Munhoz. Elias Munhoz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jailson Berger, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 59 minutes Altonia's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Vladimir Gaúcho who took care of the corner kick. Jailson Berger was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 64th minute. Desportivo Coimbra's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Severino da Fonseca sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Severino da Fonseca struck a weak shot in the 72nd minute. Vinícius Marques didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Altonia. Arnaldo Eger might have been able to make a better finish in the 77th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Elias Munhoz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Arnaldo Eger ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 81st minute, Róbson das Neves hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 82 played minutes, Desportivo Coimbra's Vladimir Gaúcho shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Elias Munhoz came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Desportivo Coimbra reached it. Reynaldo Brasil charged in rather forcefully in the 84th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Reynaldo Brasil the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Elias Munhoz was a little too slow when Jailson Berger got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 85th minute. The score was now 1-4. Vinícius Marques showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Severino da Fonseca, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. The Desportivo Coimbra supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Desportivo Coimbra would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
