Daniel Zorita's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Tiago Godoi read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 22nd minute of play. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 24th minute. Tiago Godoi didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Camilo Gisbert got a free kick in the 34th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Yaya Sow stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Yaya Sow tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 45 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Tiago Godoi made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Yaya Sow stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Yaya Sow in the 53rd minute of the match. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vito Travassos, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. In the 62nd minute Felix Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tiago Godoi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 63rd minute, Juan Sebastián Puig hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 65 minutes, Vito Travassos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. São Paulo F.C.'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Vito Travassos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Tiago Godoi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. When Wanderson Melo came up free with the goalie in the 73rd minute, the São Paulo F.C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wanderson Melo couldn't finish the play. 75 minutes into the match, São Paulo F.C.'s goalkeeper Tiago Godoi had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. 79 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Vito Travassos came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Agustín Saelices could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 80th minute of the match, but Tiago Godoi made a huge save. Wanderson Melo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 95 played minutes São Paulo F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Dorian Quadros. After 95 played minutes, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Tiago Godoi came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Ecuador reached it. When the match was over Ecuador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than São Paulo F.C. throughout the match.
