Mitchel Dijkstra made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edgardo Txaran in the 25th minute of play. 26 minutes had been played when some careless play by Fc Benefica's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Honorato Acevedo was slow to take the kick. During this time BFC 1982's players had a chance to rest. Fc Benefica were furious when Hugo Andriessen was red carded, 31 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 30th minute of the game.
