When Luiz Gustavo Paes came up free with the goalie in the 5th minute, the Esporte Club Bahia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luiz Gustavo Paes couldn't finish the play. In the 9th minute of the match Esporte Club Bahia got a corner. Honduras's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Tiago Xavier ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Tiago Xavier got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Lautaro Navarro quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. After having played for 10 minutes, Edmundo Espiga managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Honduras's supporters crossed their fingers, but Edmundo Espiga was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Tiago Xavier recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 16th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Lautaro Navarro made a fantastic save in the 19th minute, when Luís Eduardo Salles sent off a good shot on target. After a rather tough play, Esporte Club Bahia's Luís Eduardo Salles got a free kick in the 21st minute. Marcelo Lomba showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Christian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. Lautaro Navarro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luiz Gustavo Paes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tiago Xavier got free with Lautaro Navarro in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 32 minutes Honduras's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Tiago Xavier who took care of the corner kick. It was a well-played corner which Gabriel Xavier managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Luiz Gustavo Paes could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 35th minute of the match, but Lautaro Navarro made a huge save. Honduras's Sebastian Villa managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Gernando Moreira in the 38 minute of the game. 39 minutes into the match, Luís Eduardo Salles had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Lautaro Navarro. Honduras's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Luís Eduardo Salles was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. In the 42nd minute, Gernando Moreira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice moves Luís Eduardo Salles could shoot a difficult shot in the 45th minute, which Lautaro Navarro however easily saved by the left post. After having played for 46 minutes, Edmundo Espiga managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Honduras's supporters crossed their fingers, but Edmundo Espiga was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
51 minutes into the match, Esporte Club Bahia's goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Edmundo Espiga. With an all-out effort, Honduras's Marcelo Lomba threw himself towards the right post 57 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Edmundo Espiga, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Luca Espinar blasted a shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Marcelo Lomba having to make a save. Edmundo Espiga might have been able to make a better finish in the 68th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marcelo Lomba. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Edmundo Espiga ran back to his position shaking his head. After a defensive mix-up in Esporte Club Bahia's zone, Edmundo Espiga stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marcelo Lomba came out of the goal and Edmundo Espiga tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 72nd minute, Sebastian Villa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Honduras's supporters rose to their feet, but Sebastian Villa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marcelo Lomba breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Sebastian Villa blasted a shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Marcelo Lomba having to make a save. After 78 played minutes Esporte Club Bahia got a freekick which was hit by Gabriel Xavier. If Sebastian Villa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Moises Tafalla recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Edmundo Espiga fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcelo Lomba having to interfere. Honduras's attentive Christian Sancho managed to snatch the ball when Gernando Moreira made a throw-in in the 87th minute of the game. 90 minutes into the match, Edmundo Espiga dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Marcelo Lomba, 1-3. In the 95th match minute, Honduras was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Esteban Carvallo to maneuver through the defense. The Honduras supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Honduras would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
