But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rafal Gmoch couldn't finish the play. Jimeno Velasco showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Robertas Lewandowski in the 6th minute of the match. Lucjan Okraszewski hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. When Czeslaw Kostrzewski came up free with the goalie in the 11th minute, the MKS Legion Częstochowa fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Czeslaw Kostrzewski couldn't finish the play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Toni Polster got free with Stefan Ciempa in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Toni Polster in the 16th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Stefan Ciempa prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 24 minutes into the game, Zielonka Gdansk's Tobiasz Gdowik nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jimeno Velasco made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Jimeno Velasco showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Janusz Puchlik, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. The audience was convinced that Krzysztof Kluska's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jimeno Velasco was relentless in the 30th minute of the game. In the 44th minute, Czeslaw Kostrzewski got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

After a rather tough play, Zielonka Gdansk's Tobiasz Gdowik got a free kick in the 56th minute. 58 minutes into the match, Zielonka Gdansk's goal looked a bit too open when Roland Dziatkowski came free, but Stefan Ciempa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jimeno Velasco dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Janusz Puchlik in the 70th minute of play forced MKS Legion Częstochowa's goalkeeper Jimeno Velasco to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Stefan Ciempa didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Roland Dziatkowski went, in the 71st minute, to the upper right corner, 3-2 was the resulting score. 78 minutes into the game, MKS Legion Częstochowa's Rafal Gmoch nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Stefan Ciempa made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-2. In the 84th minute Czeslaw Kostrzewski shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Stefan Ciempa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 89 minutes into the match, Toni Polster notched a goal, 5-2, to the right of Zielonka Gdansk's Stefan Ciempa. Stefan Ciempa was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The MKS Legion Częstochowa fans cheered their team off the field, for while Zielonka Gdansk had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
