Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mirel Kuli in the 35th minute of play. If Manuel Negri had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 47th match minute, ≈SΞVĺЯΔ FC™ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ryszard Dudzik to maneuver through the defense. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Luiz Paulo Dionísio kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. The supporters of Ecuador booed when ≈SΞVĺЯΔ FC™ was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ryszard Dudzik didn't get a good kick on the ball. Daniel Zorita struck a weak shot in the 88th minute. José Paulo Romero didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Elano Rezende kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcelinho Costa in the 96th minute of play.
