An unexpectedly hard shot by Patrick Vander in the 5th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 16th minute, Gualterio Abastas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Roma FC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Flavio Illart in the 19th minute. The corner ended in Flavio Illart almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Costa Rica's Benito Sanz did a great save. Thanks to some nice moves Fulgencio Palos could shoot a difficult shot in the 20th minute, which Benito Sanz however easily saved by the left post. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Roma FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Federico Hug didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Lautaro Puig had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Teofilo Tono could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 34th minute of the match, but Benito Sanz made a huge save. After 35 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Lautaro Puig. Patrick Vander sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Axel Tasis kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. The crowd rose to their feet as Roma FC's Teofilo Tono slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Benito Sanz. That made the score 1-0 after 43 minutes of play.

51 minutes into the match, Eliseo Noboa dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Bartolo Senon, 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Teofilo Tono in the 54th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 55 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Teofilo Tono came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Efrain Moruga lost his temper 56 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. Efrain Moruga hit a great freekick 57 minutes into the match. 59 minutes into the match, Patrick Vander had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Patrick Vander was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. After a defensive mix-up in Costa Rica's zone, Patrick Vander stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Benito Sanz came out of the goal and Patrick Vander tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Patrick Vander received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Roma FC's Bartolo Senon proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 69th minute of the match, managed to save Roma FC from getting a goal against them. Federico Hug kicked well hit freekick during the 74th minute of the match. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Lautaro Puig hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Teofilo Tono in the 88th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Alan Moruga got a free kick in the 89th minute. With a little luck, Roma FC's Bartolo Senon got control of the ball when Eliseo Noboa tried to sneak it across the goal line. 96 minutes into the game, Hugo Ferrant was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Costa Rica's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Roma FC the free kick.
