It was a well-played corner which Manfred Kottsieper managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. After taking down the ball on FC Hamburg's corner Hendrik Holletschek fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Jan Tomaszewski quite easily take care of the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Laurențiu Cinteză to make the kick off. Volker Harm showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cyprian Sitko, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. Jarūnas Saponka hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match. Manfred Kottsieper recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 58th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Leszek Falke kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. Zielonka Gdansk's Jan Tomaszewski played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pompiliu Roşculeţ in the 66th minute of play. 70 minutes into the match, Zielonka Gdansk's goal looked a bit too open when Elard Braun-Seitz came free, but Jan Tomaszewski reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Leszek Falke sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, FC Hamburg's Eduard Hilpert got a free kick in the 76th minute. In the 78th minute Cyprian Sitko shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Volker Harm saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 79th minute Zielonka Gdansk were awarded a corner. Cyprian Sitko went to the cornerflag to take it. In the 82nd minute, Laurențiu Cinteză left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The FC Hamburg fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. FC Hamburg made a substitution. Richard Otte replaced Pompiliu Roşculeţ. Frank Groth might have been able to make a better finish in the 87th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jan Tomaszewski. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Frank Groth ran back to his position shaking his head. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
