Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 20th minute, Cristian Sancho ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ahmad Reza Asadi was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. In the 25th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ahmad Reza Asadi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 28 minutes into the match, Santos Campineiro's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Ahmad Reza Asadi reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Santos Campineiro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Antony Sharkin didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Santos Campineiro defense, Cristian Sancho kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ahmad Reza Asadi. The Santos Campineiro fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ahmad Reza Asadi should have stopped the shot. Ahmad Reza Asadi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 33rd minute of the match. Ahmad Reza Asadi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luis Andino in the 41st minute of play.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Ahmad Reza Asadi in the 79th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 86th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ahmad Reza Asadi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The corner led to Ecuador's Luis Andino getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal.
