Andrzej Köpke was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After taking down the ball on Botafogo AP's corner Agnaldo de Godoi fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Andrzej Köpke quite easily take care of the ball. Botafogo AP's Chiquinho Vasconcelos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kryspin Jaroszewicz in the 81st minute of play. Andrzej Köpke made a fantastic save in the 82nd minute, when André Luís Trigo sent off a good shot on target. The audience was convinced that André Luís Trigo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Andrzej Köpke was relentless in the 84th minute of the game.
