An unexpectedly hard shot by Manfred Kottsieper in the 6th minute of play forced Club Getafe Deportivo's goalkeeper Jairo Castellano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Curcio Carballeira struck a weak shot in the 8th minute. Jess Carnduff didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Club Getafe Deportivo. After 9 played minutes Alemannia Aachen got a freekick which was hit by Lech Wawrukiewicz. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The audience was convinced that Curcio Carballeira's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jess Carnduff was relentless in the 67th minute of the game. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
