Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Hortêncio Nogueira was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. Benito Sanz was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Alaa Negru showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 5-0 in the 28 minute of play. After 31 played minutes Hortêncio Nogueira could catch the ball where he stood relatively free a bit outside the goal and without hesitation he completed 6-0 into the left cross. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Hortêncio Nogueira in the 37th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Benito Sanz saved Costa Rica from getting behind. Hortêncio Nogueira scored 8-0 in the 41st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benito Sanz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 8-0.

In the 92nd minute, 李超扬 hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hortêncio Nogueira in the 97th minute of play.
