The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Octavian Soare made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Deimantas Satkus in the 3rd minute of play. Ovidijus Merkelis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Shi Li, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. Ovidijus Merkelis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Shi Li in the 7th minute of the match. Galati Harbour Cats's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Dan Petrescu in the 10th minute. The corner ended in Ianis Man almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Geležinis Vilkas's Ovidijus Merkelis did a great save. Geležinis Vilkas's Zenonas Lopeta managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Iordache Negrițoiu in the 12 minute of the game. Shi Li who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 14thth minute tested the skills of Ovidijus Merkelis when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 16th minute the ball was on its way in behind Geležinis Vilkas's goalkeeper Ovidijus Merkelis, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Ovidijus Merkelis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ianis Man in the 17th minute of play. Ovidijus Merkelis was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Shi Li showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 20 minute of play. In the 26th minute Deimantas Satkus shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Octavian Soare saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Galati Harbour Cats booed when Geležinis Vilkas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Svetlozar Platikanov didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Dan Petrescu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Shi Li got free with Ovidijus Merkelis in the 30th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Shi Li could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but Ovidijus Merkelis made a huge save. After a rather tough play, Geležinis Vilkas's Lucero Fritis got a free kick in the 52nd minute. In the 63rd minute Ianis Man shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ovidijus Merkelis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Galati Harbour Cats's Dan Petrescu was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Ovidijus Merkelis in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Geležinis Vilkas's Ovidijus Merkelis played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ianis Man in the 69th minute of play. In the 70th minute Ianis Man shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ovidijus Merkelis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Shi Li in the 74th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ovidijus Merkelis saved Geležinis Vilkas from getting behind. Galati Harbour Cats's Petruț Iliuță was substituted for Valeriu Zdrobiş. 80 minutes into the match, Geležinis Vilkas's goal looked a bit too open when Shi Li came free, but Ovidijus Merkelis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Shi Li had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Deimantas Satkus in the 84th minute of play forced Galati Harbour Cats's goalkeeper Octavian Soare to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dan Petrescu hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. Ovidijus Merkelis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Shi Li in the 92nd minute of play. 95 minutes into the match, Galati Harbour Cats's goal looked a bit too open when Deimantas Satkus came free, but Octavian Soare reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 96th minute, Denis Kolodin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
