Yakup Sargut made a great header on Borussia Dortmund's corner, it was just that Estudiantes de La Plata's Mário Súľovský managed to reach the ball for a save. Omar Orlanda hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. If Fernando Grover had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mário Súľovský didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Fernando Grover went, in the 16th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. In the 20th minute Fernando Grover shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mário Súľovský saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Fernando Grover in the 21st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Mário Súľovský prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Estudiantes de La Plata's Mário Súľovský played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fernando Grover in the 25th minute of play. The corner led Borussia Dortmund's Fernando Grover to fire away a dangerous shot which Mário Súľovský despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. 29 minutes had been played when some careless play by Estudiantes de La Plata's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. With a left leg Mário Súľovský saved Estudiantes de La Plata from getting behind. 35 minutes into the match, Borussia Dortmund's goalkeeper Yao Zhan Sang had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Florencio Ponc. When the match had gone on for 37 minutes, Fernando Grover put it in 0-4 from a short distance just to the right of Mário Súľovský. Tomas Levander sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Fernando Grover got free with Mário Súľovský in the 81st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Mário Súľovský came out of the goal in the 81st minute to try and stop a shot by Borussia Dortmund's Fernando Grover. But to his dismay, Fernando Grover quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-5. Fernando Grover fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mário Súľovský having to interfere. With his leg Mário Súľovský managed to avoid a goal in the 90thth minute, when Borussia Dortmund's Fernando Grover fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Mário Súľovský made an important save on a dangerous shot by Fernando Grover in the 91st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fernandez Quintairos in the 92nd minute of play forced Estudiantes de La Plata's goalkeeper Mário Súľovský to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Florentino Rodas kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match. The crowd rose to their feet as Borussia Dortmund's Fernando Grover slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Mário Súľovský. That made the score 0-6 after 94 minutes of play. Although Estudiantes de La Plata had been in control for most of the match, Borussia Dortmund still came away with the win.
