Alberto Mendonça started the match with the kick off. After a rather tough play, SORRISO E. C.'s Agostinho Pombal got a free kick in the 5th minute. The supporters of SORRISO E. C. booed when AF CERRADO was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Artur Sergipano didn't get a good kick on the ball. Reinaldo Marquez took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 9th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Severino Alcântara. AF CERRADO's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Nestor Cordeiro kicked well hit freekick during the 9th minute of the match. After taking down the ball on AF CERRADO's corner Nestor Cordeiro fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Valdo Catarinense quite easily take care of the ball. In the 16th minute, Alberto Mendonça ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Severino Alcântara was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. If Alberto Mendonça had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. With 31 minutes on the clock, Carlos Arantes commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. 30 minutes into the game, one of SORRISO E. C.:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. In the 33rd minute there was a penalty for AF CERRADO. Nestor Cordeiro stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Valdo Catarinense. 2-1. Arí Motta struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Valdo Catarinense didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for AF CERRADO. Valdo Catarinense showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Arí Motta, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. Ezequiel Melo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Valdo Catarinense tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 46th minute, Didi Gaúcho made a precise shot to the right of Valdo Catarinense. SORRISO E. C.'s defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-2. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Arí Motta to strike the kick off in the second half. AF CERRADO's Severino Alcântara played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alberto Mendonça in the 53rd minute of play. 55 minutes in the game, Arí Motta fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Valdo Catarinense having to interfere. Arí Motta could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 61st minute of the match, but Valdo Catarinense made a huge save. Valdo Catarinense made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arí Motta in the 65th minute of play. After 66 played minutes SORRISO E. C. got a freekick which was hit by Jairo Madureira. After some fancy dribbling in the 67th minute, Nestor Cordeiro managed to get in a good position for a shot. AF CERRADO's supporters rose to their feet, but Nestor Cordeiro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Valdo Catarinense breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. SORRISO E. C.'s Reinaldo Marquez got a good chance for a goal in the 72nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Vítor Sousa fell near the penalty area in the 76th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SORRISO E. C.'s protests and gave Vítor Sousa a yellow card for diving instead. AF CERRADO's Nestor Cordeiro got a good chance for a goal in the 76th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Valdo Catarinense showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Arí Motta in the 79th minute of the match. Reinaldo Marquez sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 91 minutes into the match, SORRISO E. C.'s goalkeeper Valdo Catarinense had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nestor Cordeiro. 92 minutes into the match, AF CERRADO's Ezequiel Melo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Valdo Catarinense narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
