The referee ignored Sporting de Gijón's protests and gave Esteban Ekaitz a yellow card for diving instead. After 12 played minutes Sporting de Gijón got a freekick which was hit by Esteban Ekaitz. Saturnino Curcio came free with the goalkeeper in the 16th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Mauricio Erramun could save by the left post. Óscar Cordoba made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ciriaco Tanio in the 17th minute of play. In the 20th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 20 minutes into the game, Ciriaco Tanio cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Óscar Cordoba was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Ciriaco Tanio might have been able to make a better finish in the 24th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Óscar Cordoba. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ciriaco Tanio ran back to his position shaking his head. Óscar Cordoba took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ciriaco Tanio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 39 minutes into the match, Stat Veritas FC's Ciriaco Tanio sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Óscar Cordoba narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Mauricio Erramun made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Matias Bilintx in the 41st minute of play. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Matias Bilintx got a free kick in the 43rd minute. Esteban Ekaitz got a throw-in 45 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Eustacio Loiola. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

In the 50th minute, Ciriaco Tanio got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save Sporting de Gijón from getting a goal against them. With a little luck, Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba got control of the ball when Ciriaco Tanio tried to sneak it across the goal line. Óscar Cordoba came out of the goal in the 66th minute to try and stop a shot by Stat Veritas FC's Fernando Dantae. But to his dismay, Fernando Dantae quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. Venancio Emesto received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Mauricio Erramun tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mauricio Erramun took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Diego Maradona, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Diego Maradona in the 73rd minute of play forced Stat Veritas FC's goalkeeper Mauricio Erramun to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Stat Veritas FC's Fernando Dantae in the 75th minute got a chance for a shot 75th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Fernando Dantae might have been able to make a better finish in the 93rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Óscar Cordoba. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Fernando Dantae ran back to his position shaking his head. Óscar Cordoba showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fernando Dantae, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute.
