The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alfredo Linares showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ionel Lung in the 16th minute of the match. In the 17th minute Ionel Lung shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alfredo Linares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alfredo Linares took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ionel Lung, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 21st minute, Luiz Netto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tudor Bosânceanu in the 22nd minute of play forced Villaverde Celeste Clube's goalkeeper Alfredo Linares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alfredo Linares made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. The supporters of Villaverde Celeste Clube booed when FC Buzău was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gelu Chivu didn't get a good kick on the ball. FC Buzău's Gheorghe Vărzaru played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mané Garrincha in the 60th minute of play. In the 61st minute, FC Buzău's Mădălin Cârnațiu seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Mădălin Cârnațiu the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of FC Buzău protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Mădălin Cârnațiu had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. Mădălin Cârnațiu hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. After 63 minutes of play, Villaverde Celeste Clube's Frank Sten made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gheorghe Vărzaru was left in no man's land by his defense there! Giuliano David took the ball and in the 72 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Gheorghe Vărzaru. Gheorghe Vărzaru dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. After the break the players went out on the field to play the first half of overtime with revived energy in their legs. Villaverde Celeste Clube's Frank Sten started the play with the initial kick off. After 100 played minutes FC Buzău got a freekick which was hit by Ionel Lung. FC Buzău's Gheorghe Vărzaru proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 103rd minute of the match, managed to save FC Buzău from getting a goal against them. Gheorghe Vărzaru made a fantastic save in the 104th minute, when Mané Garrincha sent off a good shot on target. In the 107th minute, Costel Dorineanu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frank Sten in the 109th minute of play forced FC Buzău's goalkeeper Gheorghe Vărzaru to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Villaverde Celeste Clube's Giuliano David shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 114th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Gheorghe Vărzaru but with some difficulty. The score was still level after an even and exciting first-half in extra time. The players took a moment to grab a drink and get instructions from their managers before swapping ends.

The players looked a little tired but resolute before the second half of the overtime, where Tudor Bosânceanu took the kick off. Alfredo Linares showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Costel Dorineanu in the 120th minute of the match. Gheorghe Vărzaru made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Giuliano David in the 126th minute of play. When Cido Guerra came up free with the goalie in the 128th minute, the Villaverde Celeste Clube fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cido Guerra couldn't finish the play. The audience was convinced that Luca Inculeț's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Alfredo Linares was relentless in the 130th minute of the game. The game was still level after extra-time. The match had to be settled by penalties!

Gheorghe Vărzaru had in the 135thth minute some difficulties stopping Sorin Zâncă's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 2-3 came in the 136th minute when Sorin Zâncă all by himself managed to get straight through the defense and place the ball into the net to the right of Alfredo Linares. FC Buzău:s Gheorghe Vărzaru showed great skill when he stopped Mané Garrincha:s penalty. The audience cheered when Mané Garrincha's long shot passed Gheorghe Vărzaru's right side. It was 3-3, 137 minutes into the match. 3-4 came through a penalty shot after 139 played minutes, when FC Buzău:s Florin Barascu calmly waited for Villaverde Celeste Clube:s goalkeeper to move before he rolled in the ball by the right post. Gheorghe Vărzaru had in the 143rdth minute some difficulties stopping Giuliano David's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. The Villaverde Celeste Clube supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching FC Buzău's performance. The match ended with a win for FC Buzău.
