The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Pete Schmeichel in the 70th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Adan Rico took the ball and in the 73 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Julio Vera. Julio Vera dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. Cristian Sancho might have been able to make a better finish in the 79th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Pete Schmeichel. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Cristian Sancho ran back to his position shaking his head. Pete Schmeichel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 82nd minute. In the 84th minute of the match, Luis Andino tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Pete Schmeichel saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Felix Montenegro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 87th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 88th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. The supporters of The Power Rangers booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Daniel Zorita didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
