Daniel Zorita blasted a shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Alvaro Urre having to make a save. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Rosario Central was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hans Falck didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Rosario Central getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Prodan Milchov hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a free kick in the 30th minute. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rodolfo Egoi in the 31st minute of play. Alvaro Urre showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 32nd minute of the match. Alvaro Urre showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 50th minute of the match, but Alvaro Urre made a huge save. In the 51st minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Rosario Central's goalie and right to Juan Sebastián Puig. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Rosario Central's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Alvaro Urre made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 57th minute. Felix Montenegro's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Alvaro Urre firmly grabbed it by the left post. After 63 played minutes Rosario Central got a freekick which was hit by Rodolfo Egoi. Daniel Zorita had several of the Rosario Central's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 69 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 0-1 score and a disappointed Alvaro Urre as he didn't even see the shot coming. 72 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Alvaro Urre made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 76th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Placido Gartzea managed to get in a good position for a shot. Rosario Central's supporters rose to their feet, but Placido Gartzea was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 80th minute, Cristian Sancho fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Rodolfo Egoi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Rosario Central's Alvaro Urre proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 85th minute of the match, managed to save Rosario Central from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 86th minute of play forced Rosario Central's goalkeeper Alvaro Urre to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 88 minutes into the match, Placido Gartzea notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of Ecuador's Julio Vera. Julio Vera was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
