Jens-Ove Åkesson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Iulian Taşcu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. -BZF- Barca de Buzau's Iulian Taşcu managed to work through Di Röe's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Iulian Taşcu dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. In the 17th match minute, -BZF- Barca de Buzau was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Basarab Achimescu to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, -BZF- Barca de Buzau's Horaţiu Nițoi got control of the ball when Ragnar Johnsson tried to sneak it across the goal line. Di Röe's Jens-Ove Åkesson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Iulian Taşcu in the 20th minute of play. The supporters of Di Röe booed when -BZF- Barca de Buzau was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emanuel Hristea didn't get a good kick on the ball. Di Röe's Alexander Hedkvist got a good chance for a goal in the 29th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Di Röe's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. In the 33rd minute, Basarab Achimescu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Horaţiu Nițoi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ragnar Johnsson in the 34th minute of the match. With his leg Horaţiu Nițoi managed to avoid a goal in the 39thth minute, when Di Röe's Magnus Tham fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After a rather tough play, Di Röe's Fabian Rydelius got a free kick in the 41st minute. In the 45th minute Ragnar Johnsson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Horaţiu Nițoi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Iulian Taşcu's late challenge caught a Di Röe's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Albert Nyman ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner went over the outstretched arms of -BZF- Barca de Buzau's goalie and right to Ragnar Johnsson. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. -BZF- Barca de Buzau's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. The audience was convinced that Jens-Ove Ekberg's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Horaţiu Nițoi was relentless in the 81st minute of the game.
