The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 5th minute, Buenaventura Paniagua ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Marcinho Marques was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. After 13 played minutes OROTINENSE got a freekick which was hit by Keilor Barrantes. After a defensive mix-up in OROTINENSE's zone, Ernani Dias stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ulises Villegas came out of the goal and Ernani Dias tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Luizão Custódio hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. After 18 played minutes Rodolfo Orozco rounded Inter de Melão's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 2-0. Zeca de Sena took the ball and in the 21 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ulises Villegas. Ulises Villegas dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. The supporters of Inter de Melão booed when OROTINENSE was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Buenaventura Paniagua didn't get a good kick on the ball. Marcinho Marques showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Buenaventura Paniagua, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. A collision led to OROTINENSE getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Keilor Barrantes hit a great ball. In the 36th minute of the match Ernani Dias shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Ulises Villegas showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. When Marcelinho Mineiro fell near the penalty area in the 38th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Inter de Melão's protests and gave Marcelinho Mineiro a yellow card for diving instead. After 38 played minutes Inter de Melão got a freekick which was hit by Marcelinho Mineiro. After a defensive mix-up in Inter de Melão's zone, Alex Santamaria stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marcinho Marques came out of the goal and Alex Santamaria tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rodolfo Orozco was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 43rd minute. OROTINENSE's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Marcinho Marques took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Buenaventura Paniagua, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Marcinho Marques had great luck who in the 47thth minute grab hold of the ball when Ernesto Barrantes from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Buenaventura Paniagua made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alex Santamaria in the 51st minute of play forced Inter de Melão's goalkeeper Marcinho Marques to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 53 played minutes OROTINENSE got a freekick which was hit by Tito Cespedes. 55 minutes into the match, OROTINENSE's goalkeeper Ulises Villegas had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Zeca de Sena. Rodolfo Orozco charged in rather forcefully in the 56th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Rodolfo Orozco the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Rodolfo Orozco hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. Marcinho Marques was left in no man's land by his defense there!
