In the 6th minute Manfred Andrau shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilhelm Säv saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Wilhelm Säv made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Karsten Illgner in the 7th minute of play. In the 8th minute, Karsten Illgner hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Conny Mårtensson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 14th match minute, KFC Uerdingen 05 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Karsten Illgner to maneuver through the defense. Nicolas Anelka hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. When Conny Mårtensson came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Sundens BK fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Conny Mårtensson couldn't finish the play. A collision led to KFC Uerdingen 05 getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Nicolas Anelka hit a great ball. KFC Uerdingen 05's Radenko Mayer proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 35th minute of the match, managed to save KFC Uerdingen 05 from getting a goal against them. Sven-Olof Jernberg fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Radenko Mayer having to interfere. In the 43rd minute, Joseph Hussen ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Wilhelm Säv was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. The Sundens BK players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. KFC Uerdingen 05 were winning 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Karsten Illgner to make the kick off. 51 minutes into the match, Sundens BK's goalkeeper Wilhelm Säv had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Joseph Hussen. After a rather tough play, Sundens BK's Jon Lundqvist got a free kick in the 53rd minute. Sundens BK's Wilhelm Säv proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 54th minute of the match, managed to save Sundens BK from getting a goal against them. Joseph Hussen could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 66th minute of the match, but Wilhelm Säv made a huge save. Jon Lundqvist's late challenge caught a KFC Uerdingen 05's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jon Lundqvist helped the player get up and apologised. Jon Lundqvist hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ratko Leibold in the 68th minute of play forced Sundens BK's goalkeeper Wilhelm Säv to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of KFC Uerdingen 05 booed when Sundens BK was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jon Lundqvist didn't get a good kick on the ball. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing KFC Uerdingen 05 would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
