After some careless play in the Academia Club defense, Merrill Banks kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Hernan Ellande. The Academia Club fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Hernan Ellande should have stopped the shot. After having played for 11 minutes, Leo Delfino managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Academia Club's supporters crossed their fingers, but Leo Delfino was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 13th minute Merrill Banks shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hernan Ellande saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hernan Ellande stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Merrill Banks's shot from short distance in the 21st minute. Racing Miami Futbol Club's Shane Smiley got a good chance for a goal in the 23rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 25th minute, Leo Delfino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 26th minute, Merrill Banks got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The supporters of Racing Miami Futbol Club booed when Academia Club was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Severo Goiz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Racing Miami Futbol Club's Franco Di Giambattista played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Leo Delfino in the 53rd minute of play. Leo Delfino struck a weak shot in the 56th minute. Franco Di Giambattista didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Academia Club.
