Spectators: 36 (Terracing: 28, Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Washington Furtado started the match with the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ronaldo Pirani in the 3rd minute of play forced CDS BUCANEIROS PAULISTA's goalkeeper Gyula Grosics to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gyula Grosics took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Serafim Simão, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 26 played minutes Palestra do Interior got a freekick which was hit by Ezequiel de Souza. Jean Quintal blasted a shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Antônio Carlos Cavalcante having to make a save. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Toninho Garcia showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 28 minute of play. In the 32nd minute, David Vale got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 34th match minute, CDS BUCANEIROS PAULISTA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Duda Goiano to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 35 minutes, Nelsinho Marinho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Palestra do Interior's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nelsinho Marinho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 39th minute Nelsinho Marinho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gyula Grosics saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Palestra do Interior booed when CDS BUCANEIROS PAULISTA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jean Quintal didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 43rd minute, Ronaldo Pirani made a precise shot to the right of Gyula Grosics. CDS BUCANEIROS PAULISTA's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Ronaldo Pirani made the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes had been played when some careless play by CDS BUCANEIROS PAULISTA's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Nelsinho Marinho was slow to take the kick. During this time Palestra do Interior's players had a chance to rest. The corner went over the outstretched arms of CDS BUCANEIROS PAULISTA's goalie and right to Nelson Xavier. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. CDS BUCANEIROS PAULISTA's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ronaldo Pirani got free with Gyula Grosics in the 56th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Gyula Grosics had great luck who in the 56thth minute grab hold of the ball when Ronaldo Pirani from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. In the 61st minute, Toninho Garcia hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A hard shot 63 in the game by Nelsinho Marinho from a close distance when the talented Gyula Grosics managed to make a qualified save. CDS BUCANEIROS PAULISTA's players were relieved. Gyula Grosics made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nelsinho Marinho in the 69th minute of play. With a little luck, CDS BUCANEIROS PAULISTA's Gyula Grosics got control of the ball when Nelsinho Marinho tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Nelsinho Marinho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 78th minute, Serafim Simão left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Palestra do Interior fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. Ernani Travassos's late challenge caught a Palestra do Interior's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ernani Travassos helped the player get up and apologised. In the 85th minute, Ernani Travassos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gyula Grosics acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 85th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Nelsinho Marinho. Dinei Brito blasted a shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Gyula Grosics having to make a save. Gyula Grosics stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nelsinho Marinho's shot from short distance in the 91st minute. Nelsinho Marinho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
