The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Diogo Zonta hit a great freekick 3 minutes into the match. Olavo Fonseca made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tiago Machado in the 6th minute of play. 12 minutes into the game, Tiago Machado recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Olavo Fonseca. Tiago Machado showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. A hard shot 16 in the game by Belmiro Sanches from a close distance when the talented Olavo Fonseca managed to make a qualified save. Vascogoianiense FC's players were relieved. After 22 minutes of play, Vascogoianiense FC's Márcio Medeiros made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Tarcisio Gerber was left in no man's land by his defense there! Tarcisio Gerber took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Márcio Medeiros, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 29th minute, Evandro Maia got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 31 minutes into the game, Anderson Valladares was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Vascogoianiense FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave EDI MZB the free kick. After 31 played minutes Vascogoianiense FC got a freekick which was hit by Anderson Valladares. Olavo Fonseca came out of the goal in the 32nd minute to try and stop a shot by EDI MZB's Belmiro Sanches. But to his dismay, Belmiro Sanches quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Olavo Fonseca showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tiago Machado, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. In the 38th minute of the match, Tiago Machado tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Olavo Fonseca saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 40th minute, EDI MZB's Evandro Maia dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 3-1. Evandro Maia could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 43rd minute of the match, but Olavo Fonseca made a huge save. 47 minutes into the match, Vascogoianiense FC's goal looked a bit too open when Evandro Maia came free, but Olavo Fonseca reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Belmiro Sanches to strike the kick off in the second half. Olavo Fonseca made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Evandro Maia in the 52nd minute of play. Rubinho Costa lost his temper 53 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. 53 minutes into the game, one of EDI MZB:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Tarcisio Gerber had in the 54thth minute some difficulties stopping Hélder Trigo's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his right side, but he still managed to hold the ball The audience thought a goal was coming when Júnior Camargo got free with Tarcisio Gerber in the 66th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 69 minutes, Evandro Maia managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. EDI MZB's supporters crossed their fingers, but Evandro Maia was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Waldir Faria hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. Tarcisio Gerber made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Márcio Medeiros in the 79th minute of play. EDI MZB's Tarcisio Gerber proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 82nd minute of the match, managed to save EDI MZB from getting a goal against them. Tiago Machado fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Olavo Fonseca having to interfere. EDI MZB made a substitution. Telmo Bueno replaced Edi Souza. In the 88th match minute, Vascogoianiense FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ronaldão Carvalho to maneuver through the defense. Olavo Fonseca took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tiago Machado, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of EDI MZB booed when Vascogoianiense FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Válter Martins didn't get a good kick on the ball. EDI MZB were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Vascogoianiense FC for a fine match.
