Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Nelsinho Marinho in the 26th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Carlinhos da Costa prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 30th minute, Paulo Pontes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Dário Gomes fell near the penalty area in the 35th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored E.C 2 Janeiro RS's protests and gave Dário Gomes a yellow card for diving instead. In the 35th match minute, E.C 2 Janeiro RS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dário Gomes to maneuver through the defense. Ronaldo Pirani received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Carlinhos da Costa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Carlinhos da Costa made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nelsinho Marinho in the 47th minute. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

When Palestra do Interior's Nelsinho Marinho in the 51st minute got a chance for a shot 51st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye E.C 2 Janeiro RS's goalie prevented a goal. Carlinhos da Costa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Serafim Simão, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 53 minutes into the game, Palestra do Interior's Nelsinho Marinho nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Carlinhos da Costa made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. Carlinhos da Costa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nelsinho Marinho in the 60th minute of play. If Serafim Simão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Palestra do Interior made a substitution. Delfim Quintal replaced David Vale. The supporters of E.C 2 Janeiro RS booed when Palestra do Interior was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pau Lin-Carlos didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 76th minute, Nelsinho Marinho left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Palestra do Interior fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-0. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nelsinho Marinho in the 79th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Carlinhos da Costa saved E.C 2 Janeiro RS from getting behind. Carlinhos da Costa stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Pau Lin-Carlos's shot from short distance in the 80th minute. Carlinhos da Costa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nelsinho Marinho in the 86th minute of play. 90 minutes into the game, Nelsinho Marinho cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-0. Carlinhos da Costa was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 93rdth minute of the game Nelsinho Marinho who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but E.C 2 Janeiro RS's Carlinhos da Costa was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Palestra do Interior had played much better football throughout.
