Palmares Futebol Clube's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Dudu Queiroz ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on Nova Iguaçu MZFC's corner Dudu Queiroz fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Leonardo Paz quite easily take care of the ball. Mauro de Salles took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Túlio Maravilha, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Palmares Futebol Clube were awarded a corner in the 26th minute after Nova Iguaçu MZFC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Luisinho Nogueira took the corner. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Mauro de Salles prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Mauro de Salles showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from João Vítor Sena, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. When Paulo Renato Souza fell near the penalty area in the 37th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Nova Iguaçu MZFC's protests and gave Paulo Renato Souza a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Palmares Futebol Clube booed when Nova Iguaçu MZFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paulo Renato Souza didn't get a good kick on the ball. Wilson Vidal hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. Leonardo Paz stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jailson de Carvalho's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. If João Vítor Sena had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jailson de Carvalho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Leonardo Paz read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 47th minute of play. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

Palmares Futebol Clube's Leonardo Paz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jailson de Carvalho in the 57th minute of play. Leonardo Paz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paulo Renato Souza in the 59th minute of the match. Leonardo Paz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jailson de Carvalho in the 69th minute of play. João Vítor Sena fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mauro de Salles having to interfere.
